Granite is the 2nd hardest natural substance in the world, the 1st being a diamond. With this in mind you can rest assured that your granite countertops will last for generations to come. The natural beauty of granite will never fade or dull indoors. With more than 3000 colors available, patterns range from exotic movement to consistent fleck granite. There are only a few solid colors available and no 2 slabs are identical, therefore you should never order granite based on a sample. Always view the actual slab. There are several finishes available, as well. Polished, brushed, flamed or honed.
Granite is porous and does require sealing. A good sealer, such as the brand we use, should last for many years with proper care. Always ask if sealing is included with your installation, some companies don’t seal at all and you may not realize it until it’s too late. This can cause irreversible problems down the road.
Granite is also the #1 countertop sold in America and due to the high demand, has become more affordable. As far as durability is concerned, you can’t cut it, scratch it or burn it…. It’s a rock! Granite can withstand temperatures up to 900 degrees, so no need to use a trivet for hot pans. You can cut directly on the surface, the only drawback is, you will dull your knife over time. It is not indestructible, it can be damaged by misuse. All over hangs should have the proper length bracing to prevent cracks from repeated misuse.
